THAMES EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE

Founded in 1983, Thames Educational Institute is an officially-registered, non-traditional charitable trust, in association with the childrens charity AMBLEN, for training and all-age education, with a strong emphasis on adult and lifelong learning.

Its founding principles and ethos are broadly religious, upholding the commonly held values of the major religions of the world. Although Christianity is central to this secular objective, it is non-discriminatory in its policies of staffing and student intake, and is committed to the objective of equality of opportunity. It seeks to achieve a balance in the education system, providing an opportunity in further and higher education for those who have found it difficult to study at these levels for one reason or the other. It is committed to a programme of education for all in the community which pays particular attention to situations out of which learning difficulties arise. It is designed to cater for the needs of a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life. It hopes to create lifelong learning partnerships, and an effectively supportive machinery in and out of learning environments.

Given an emphasis on the need for everyone to attain to their full potential at the highest possible standards in education, the institute seeks to facilitate learning at every level and especially to enhance objective study and academic freedom among adults. It promotes supplementary education for school-attending pupils (6-16) and fosters independent study and research as well as collaborative projects higher up the learning age groups. It will help advance the cause of any useful objective in education within its resources and means. Its teaching/learning partnerships will provide a basis for training, retraining and full participation in the job market. Participants should acquire both gainful skills for employment (with experience useful also for satisfaction in normal life) and intellectual advancement. They are provided with an opportunity to study within a flexible and structured system. It is hoped that many would attain high capacity and delivery levels, whatever their chosen field in life.
